Saddlebred

Making History

The American Saddlebred is a breed that was originally developed in Kentucky, primarily in Bourbon County. So it must have been fate that Hillcroft Farm found its home in Paris, right in the heart of Bourbon County.

Misdee first became involved with owning, raising, and showing American Saddlebreds after being introduced to the breed while helping her mother develop the National Show Horse Breeding Program. As soon as she saw the American Saddlebred, she fell in love with the breed. As Misdee describes it, “It is the horse that gives me the thrill of my life day after day after day.”

According to Misdee, the American Saddlebred loves who they are. They are indeed the ultimate show horse. They are an extremely intelligent breed that wants to work with you. Misdee continues to explore the versatility of the American Saddlebred, having horses both under saddle and in harness, as well as in Western classes.

In over a decade of operation, Hillcroft Farm has produced countless champions in the show ring. Partnering with the trainers at Kalarama Farm, Hillcroft horses have won, and continue to win, both championships and world championships every show season in numerous divisions. Just as importantly, horses purchased from Hillcroft Farm continue their winning ways for their new owners.

Some of Hillcroft Farm’s most notable show horses include CH Our Canary Diamond, WGC CH Grande Gil, CH HS Baby Steps, and WGC CH The Daily Lottery. In 2018, Hillcroft Farm became the first farm since 1932 to win all four World Grand Championships: Fine Harness (won by CH Castledream), Three-Gaited (won by CH Grande Gil), Five-Gaited (won by CH The Daily Lottery), and Roadster to Bike (won by Live Action).
