At Hillcroft, we train and compete in both pleasure driving and combined driving. Trainer Todd Draheim ably oversees both divisions.
Hillcroft is home to an antique carriage collection that began with two carriages inherited from Misdee’s great –grandparents. More than just collector’s items, all of the carriages are used in pleasure drives and competitions as both James and Misdee are avid drivers. Misdee is president of the World Coaching Club, and James is a member of the venerable New York Coaching Club.
With over 1000 acres, we have miles of trails that wind through the beautiful property at Hillcroft and wildlife such as deer and wild turkey are often spotted. More trails are in development with an eye towards hosting pleasure drives and competitions in the future.
In the show ring, James’ team of black Geldelanders and Misdee’s team of bay Dutch harness horses have won from Devon to Walnut Hill as well as having the manners and conditioning to participate in coaching drives such as Newport and the Berkshires.
Misdee took up the exciting sport of combined driving in 2007 with the same talented Dutch Harness Horses she uses for coaching. She currently is training with multi-world champion Michael Freund with a goal of making the U.S Pairs team for the world championships in 2011.
James and Misdee were also instrumental in bringing combined driving back to the Kentucky Horse Park, helping to organize the Lexington Classic Combined Driving Event.
With the World Equestrian Games around the corner, Hillcroft Farm will be busy as one of the training facilities for the US Team. Dressage and cones fields are being readied and hazards are being developed in order to make Hillcroft a top training facility for the Games and beyond.
2009 was an UNDEFEATED SEASON for Hillcroft! Misdee and her talented horses won all four CDEs in the Intermediate Pair division; additionally, they had the lowest dressage score of that division in all four shows. Many thanks to Coach Michael Freund and coordinator/navigator Todd Draheim, as well as the entire dedicated Hillcroft crew.
